Planting Asparagus アスパラの植え方

 We decided we didn't have enough asparagus (can one ever have enough asparagus??), so we ordered more crowns from Territorial Seed this year. They arrived last Friday, and we spent Saturday morning at my cousin's house, getting the bed ready and planting the crowns.

わが家はアスパラが大好きです！もう少し食べたいと思って、アスパラの根っこを注文しました。裏庭にはすでにもう植えてあるのでいとこの畑で植えました。

This first photo is what asparagus crowns look like.  They have very long roots! 

最初の写真はアスパラの長い根っこです。

 First, dig a trench about 6-10 inches (15-20 cm) deep.  Take a crown and spread the roots out.

15センチから２０センチまでのミゾを掘って、アスパラの根を広げます。

 

Leave 12-14 inches (25-30 cm) between the crowns. I know my handspan is 7 inches (15 cm), so it's easy to measure.

アスパラの頭と頭の間は２５－３０センチです。わたしの手のひらの長さは１５センチと知っているので計りやすいです。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cover the crowns and roots with only 2 inches (5cm) of soil and water well. Do not add fertilizer or compost!  As the asparagus grows, keep adding soil to the ditch until the soil is even.  Then top with well-aged compost.

土が芽から５センチだけ被るようにし、水をよく巻きます。ひりょうやこやしをつかわないでください。アスパラの芽が出ると少しずつ土をかけます。土がせんぶかけてから堆肥かひりょうを撒(ま)いてください。
